Guide Madeline up Celeste Mountain by combining jumps, air-dashes and climbing. Short platforming areas and nearby restarts make each failed attempt another chance to work out the next movement sequence.

About this game

Celeste follows Madeline's climb up a mountain alongside a story about confronting her inner struggles. You move through platforming areas using jumps, air-dashes and climbing, combining those actions to reach the next stretch of the ascent. The route is divided into short areas, and failure sends you back to a nearby restart point. The game also includes unlockable B-side chapters with harder platforming challenges. Its movement rules include a small allowance for jumping just after leaving an edge, giving the jump input some room around the edge of a platform. Live piano and synthesizer beats form part of the soundtrack accompanying the journey.

9.2 / 10Nintendo Switch

A strong conceptual fit for players who enjoy learning demanding movement in small steps.

Short areas and nearby restarts may make it easier to focus on correcting one movement sequence at a time. The harder B-side chapters offer a further goal for players who become interested in refining those same actions.

Strengths

  • Nearby restarts could keep the focus on adjusting an attempt rather than retracing a long route.
  • The post-edge jump allowance may help intended jumps register around platform edges.

Weaknesses

  • Players who dislike practicing difficult platforming sequences may find the challenge-led structure tiring.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy refining jumps and dashes, with a character-focused story alongside the climb.
