About this game

Shiren and his talking ferret companion Koppa arrive on an island surrounded by rumors of pirate treasure. You explore dungeons whose layouts, items and monster placements change between visits, collecting weapons, shields and bracelets while searching for the stairs. Monsters take their turns after your actions and wait when you stop to consider your next move. Walking restores HP as turns pass, but those same turns consume Fullness. Onigiri replenishes that food reserve, linking exploration and recovery to resource management. Collapsing ordinarily costs your accumulated gear and experience, although a successful rescue lets you continue with your items. The journey therefore involves deciding how far to search before moving on, with each new dungeon layout changing the immediate problem.

Collected in series

Shiren the Wanderer is a roguelike RPG series where changing dungeons make every move, supply and item matter. Enemies act as you do, giving you time to consider a risky fight, a clever escape or one more step toward the stairs.

8.4 / 10Nintendo Switch

A promising fit for players who enjoy thinking through risky dungeon expeditions one move at a time.

Action-triggered enemy turns should reward deliberate positioning, while hunger makes extra exploration a resource decision. Changing layouts may keep that reasoning relevant across attempts, provided the loss of equipment and experience feels like an acceptable stake.

Strengths

  • Waiting enemies give you room to consider a move, while changing dungeon layouts can demand a fresh plan.

Weaknesses

  • Losing gear and experience after collapse may be discouraging if you prefer every attempt to preserve its gains.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy turn-based survival decisions and adapting their route to the resources they find.

Recovery and hunger both advance with turns, so searching another room can create a meaningful tradeoff between preparation and food reserves.

Because your actions trigger enemy turns, positioning can become a considered tactical choice rather than a test of reaction speed.
