About this game

Sea of Stars follows two Children of the Solstice whose combined sun and moon powers oppose an evil alchemist's creations. You guide their adventure through a world where exploration includes swimming, climbing and crossing ledges. Battles occur in the places you explore, without random encounters or a separate battlefield transition. During combat, choosing an attack is only part of the action: timed button presses can strengthen a hit or reduce incoming damage. Multi-character combos and damage types add further decisions, while enemy locks give you a way to hinder a powerful attack being prepared. Between these encounters, you can cook, fish or play the tabletop game Wheels. The updated game also supports local cooperation for up to three players.

8.9 / 10Nintendo Switch

For players who want turn-based planning with something active to do during each exchange.

Enemy locks can make attack selection about interruption as well as damage, while timed inputs keep execution involved. If you enjoy both choosing a response and landing its timing, those layers may complement each other.

Strengths

  • Damage-type locks can give party attacks a purpose beyond maximising damage.
  • Swimming and climbing may make exploration feel more physical than following a fixed walking route.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking entirely menu-driven battles may find the added timing layer less appealing.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy party combinations, reactive button timing and exploration between turn-based encounters.

Play notes: Local multiplayer requires a compatible controller for each participant.
