About this game

SaGa Emerald Beyond follows six protagonists across five story groups. From the Junction, travel into a network of seventeen worlds whose events develop through your decisions and return visits. The settings range from developed cityscapes to plant-covered environments, while your chosen protagonist provides the starting point for the journey. Battles expose enemy actions and their order before the turn begins. Select techniques that change the timeline, connect eligible attack ranges for stronger combinations, or interfere with enemy links. Formations add effects such as altered technique costs, while Glimmers can reveal new weapon-dependent techniques during combat. Different races also learn and grow differently, making the party's composition another part of your planning.

7.6 / 10Nintendo Switch

A considered fit for players who enjoy reshaping turn order and letting choices redirect a journey.

Visible enemy intentions and movable action order could make each turn a question of arranging opportunities, rather than selecting attacks in isolation. Branching world visits should appeal most to players willing to discover how their decisions alter subsequent events.

Strengths

  • Allied and enemy links create a concrete tension between building your own sequence and breaking the opponent's.
  • Race-dependent growth and weapon-based Glimmers may encourage trying party members for different development paths.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer a predetermined itinerary may find changing world developments less comfortable to plan around.

Who it is for: Turn-based tacticians who like planning action sequences, experimenting with party growth and exploring narrative branches.

Play notes: Enemies can link attacks too; arranging an allied combination does not remove the need to consider their sequence.

Stories that change with choices and return visits may reward curiosity, especially for players comfortable with a route that does not stay fixed.

Changing action order to connect allied attacks or interrupt enemy combinations could make sequence planning the defining tactical pleasure.

Contrasting city and vegetation-covered worlds could help each destination feel like a change of setting rather than another stop in one uniform landscape.

Showing enemy actions and order before a turn should make the timeline a useful planning aid rather than information available only after resolution.
