About this game
Romancing SaGa 2 follows an empire across successive rulers. You guide its campaign against the Seven Heroes, with your actions affecting the world's situation and the passage of time. When a new emperor takes over, learned techniques and spells pass onward, linking the next reign to the work of the previous one. In battle, using weapons or martial arts can reveal new techniques. Formations add another decision by changing the effects applied to particular party positions. This original-style rerelease retains pixel-art presentation with redrawn backgrounds. It also includes New Game+, allowing useful character attributes and items to carry into a fresh campaign rather than making every restart entirely from scratch.
Collected in series
SaGa is an RPG series that experiments with player choice, character growth and turn-based battles. Its games often let you choose a protagonist or the order of your travels, while changing combat rules encourage you to learn each adventure on its own terms.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
An RPG for players who enjoy shaping a dynasty and experimenting with combat systems.
Succession can make progress feel like an imperial legacy rather than one hero's uninterrupted journey. Technique discovery and positional formation effects provide reasons to experiment, while the freeform structure asks players to enjoy choosing their own direction.
Strengths
- Inherited techniques can make a change of ruler feel connected to earlier accomplishments.
- Technique discovery and formation effects offer different kinds of combat experimentation.
Weaknesses
- Players attached to following one permanent protagonist may find the succession structure less appealing.
Who it is for: RPG players interested in evolving party tactics, nonlinear decisions and progress carried across generations of rulers.
Play notes: This entry covers the original-style rerelease with pixel-art presentation and redrawn backgrounds.
