About this game

Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 03: Vehicle Kit starts with making the controls yourself. Follow the software's interactive instructions to assemble cardboard Toy-Con for a car, submarine and plane, without glue or scissors. A Nintendo Switch and its Joy-Con controllers bring those creations into the game. Move the Toy-Con Key between controllers to change vehicles as you explore on land, underwater and in the air. The included activities also cover timed racing and battles with punching cars. Beyond driving, Toy-Con Garage lets you connect inputs and outputs to devise your own interactions, extending the activity from following a build to experimenting with how it works.

Collected in series

Nintendo Labo combines cardboard construction with Nintendo Switch games, turning handmade Toy-Con into instruments, vehicles and interactive toys. Building is part of the play, and the software lets you investigate how each creation works or experiment with new responses.

8.1 / 10Nintendo Switch

Best suited to players who want making the controller to be part of playing.

The physical Key gives vehicle changes a tangible action, which may appeal to people who enjoy handling their creations. Garage experiments provide a further reason to stay curious about the controls after completing the guided builds.

Strengths

  • Construction and vehicle operation can make a satisfying pair for players who enjoy seeing a handmade object do something.
  • Toy-Con Garage offers an outlet for experimenting beyond the supplied assembly instructions.

Weaknesses

  • The construction stage may feel like a hurdle if your only interest is getting straight to driving.

Who it is for: Hands-on makers and families interested in building together, then trying out the resulting vehicle controls.

Play notes: Switch Lite needs separate Joy-Con and cannot use the included screen stand. The stand can also obscure part of an OLED model's screen.
