About this game
Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit starts with making the objects you will play with. Interactive instructions guide you through cardboard projects including RC Cars, a fishing rod, a house, a motorbike and a piano. Combined with Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con, the fishing rod catches virtual fish and the piano lets you play and record music. Finishing one set of building instructions opens the Play activities, although each needs its matching Toy-Con. Trying a project then opens its Discover material about how it works. Toy-Con Garage extends the process into invention: connect input, intermediate and output nodes to define your own interactions, applying what you have learned from the physical builds.
Collected in series
Nintendo Labo combines cardboard construction with Nintendo Switch games, turning handmade Toy-Con into instruments, vehicles and interactive toys. Building is part of the play, and the software lets you investigate how each creation works or experiment with new responses.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A strong conceptual fit for people who enjoy making the controller as much as using it.
Assembly, play and explanations form a path from following instructions to experimenting with your own interactions. The appeal depends on enjoying physical construction and investigation, especially when moving into Toy-Con Garage.
Strengths
- Using a self-built object can make the connection between physical actions and game responses tangible.
- Garage provides a route from guided projects to personal experiments.
Weaknesses
- Players who want to start with ready-made controls may find the assembly requirement an obstacle.
Who it is for: Curious makers and families interested in building, testing and discussing how things work.
Play notes: Switch Lite does not fit several Toy-Con as intended; fitting an OLED model into the Piano or Motorbike can deform the cardboard.
