About this game
Monster Sanctuary begins with choosing a spectral familiar and building a team by hatching, collecting and training monsters. Each creature has its own skill tree, letting you customize the party as you develop it. In battles between three-monster teams, attack order matters: successive attacks build combos, making the sequence of your team's actions part of the tactical decision. Your companions also help you explore. Their abilities cut vines, break walls and carry you across gaps, opening routes through the world. Progress involves environmental puzzles and precise platforming as well as monster battles. The side-view pixel presentation brings these activities into the same landscape, with your team serving as both a fighting force and a means of reaching new places.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A fit for players who want monster team-building to matter both in battles and on the map.
Individual skill trees and combo-focused attack ordering give players several connected decisions to consider when shaping a party. Using monster abilities to open routes can make collecting companions feel relevant beyond combat, provided you also enjoy puzzles and platforming.
Strengths
- Party customization and attack sequencing can appeal to players who enjoy working out how a team functions together.
- Traversal abilities give monsters a practical role in opening the world as well as fighting.
Weaknesses
- Players interested only in party tactics may find precision platforming an unwanted additional demand.
Who it is for: Players who like customizing creature teams and exploring ability-gated routes, and are comfortable with movement challenges between battles.
Play notes: Monster abilities are part of route progression, so exploration also depends on what your companions can do outside combat.
