About this game

On a mountain covered in defilement, you control Soh and protect the Maiden's journey. Daytime is for cleansing villages and rescuing their residents. You assign those villagers roles and positions, then fight alongside them with dance-like sword attacks when the Seethe come at night. Choosing where the villagers stand and which enemies Soh engages shapes your defense. Survive until dawn, then guide the Maiden to a torii gate during daylight so her dance can purify it. This alternation between preparation, defense and purification drives the journey. The Nintendo Switch 2 version supports mouse-based villager placement alongside conventional controller play and includes the additional content Otherworldly Venture.

9.0 / 10Nintendo Switch 2

For players who want to build a defense and personally fight inside it.

Villager placement and Soh's swordplay put planning and direct action in the same encounter. The day-and-night cycle gives those decisions a recurring purpose: prepare the village, keep the Maiden safe, then continue her purification route.

Strengths

  • Commanding villagers while controlling Soh can make defensive plans feel personally involving.
  • The preparation and defense phases give a clear role to each part of the daily cycle.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking uninterrupted sword combat may find the recurring allocation and placement decisions a distraction.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy defending an objective while dividing attention between allied positions and their own attacks.
