About this game

Everybody 1-2-Switch! turns a same-room gathering into a series of minigame contests. In Team Contest, participants split into two teams and compete in randomly selected activities. Minigame victories add points to the team total, with the higher total deciding the winner. Horse host Horace helps set up the session by asking about your controls and preferred playing duration. The equipment changes the activities available. With Joy-Con controllers, you can use pumping motions to bring a balloon to the right size without popping it. A smart-device activity instead sends you looking for something to photograph that matches an on-screen colour. Some minigames belong exclusively to one control mode, and Smart Device Mode requires compatible devices, a Nintendo Account and internet access while everyone plays in the same room.

5.9 / 10Nintendo Switch

Suited to same-room groups willing to make gestures and their surroundings part of the contest.

Balloon pumping and colour photography can shift attention between physical coordination and noticing objects around you. Team scoring gives these different tasks a shared competitive purpose, which should appeal to groups that enjoy participating together.

Strengths

  • Contrasting motion and camera tasks can let different kinds of participation contribute to the gathering.
  • Choosing controls and session duration during setup can help organise play around the group's equipment and plans.

Weaknesses

  • Control-mode exclusives may limit the activity mix for a group using only one kind of equipment.

Who it is for: Gatherings that enjoy team competition, physical gestures and looking around the room for game prompts.

Play notes: Smart Device Mode is for participants in the same room and requires compatible devices, a Nintendo Account and internet access.

Randomly selected Team Contest activities and a chosen session duration can suit an organised gathering without requiring everyone to choose each next game.

The contrast between controlling balloon size and finding a matching colour can make teamwork about more than pressing buttons quickly.

A horse host directing real-room activities can lend the gathering a game-show character for groups that enjoy a playful presenter.

Sensor-based activities require both an accelerometer and a gyroscope, so owning a smart device alone does not establish access to every minigame.
