About this game

DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2 combines a block-building adventure with the work of restoring settlements. Explore for materials, craft objects and construct places for villagers to use, then defend those settlements from monsters. Malroth accompanies you, helping with both fighting and gathering, while the adventure introduces further crafting and building recipes. Villagers' requests give construction a direction: fulfilling them earns gratitude that develops a base. A room's contents determine how residents use it, and a blueprint can become a shared building project when you supply enough materials. You can also cut blocks diagonally to shape your designs and switch to a first-person view. Local wireless building on the Isle of Awakening opens after the first island is freed.

Collected in series

Dragon Quest builds fantasy journeys around visiting towns, exploring dungeons and growing stronger through battles. Its mainline adventures are known for turn-based decisions and heroic quests, while spin-offs take the same world of monsters and magic into other kinds of play.

8.2 / 10Nintendo Switch

Purposeful town-building for players who want their creations to support a community.

Requests and usable rooms could make each construction feel connected to villagers' lives. Gathering, defense and recipe progression also mean the appeal depends on enjoying an adventure around the building work.

Strengths

  • Room rules and villager construction can make a settlement feel like a working project rather than only a display.
  • New recipes give players who like learning through adventure concrete reasons to keep developing their building options.

Weaknesses

  • Players interested only in placing blocks may find the need to gather materials and defend settlements an interruption.

Who it is for: Builders who enjoy practical town layouts, helping characters and alternating construction with exploration and combat.

Play notes: Local wireless building unlocks after freeing the first island and requires a separate console and game copy for each participant.
