About this game

Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition begins with imprisoned Source users being sent to an island after their powers are sealed. Choose a protagonist with an origin story or create your own, then develop the party as you follow the main story through areas containing side quests. Origin characters bring separate stories about their backgrounds, while abilities such as persuasion can help obtain quest information. Battles turn movement and attacks into decisions about action points. Spend them now or retain unused points for the next turn, and consider what the environment lets you do: rain can leave water that an electrical spell then electrifies. Starting character presets do not impose fixed classes, so developing the party is also a matter of choosing the abilities you want to combine.

9.3 / 10Nintendo Switch

A strong conceptual fit for players who enjoy building a party and reasoning through interacting rules.

Action-point carryover and elemental surfaces could make a turn interesting beyond choosing an attack. Flexible builds and ability-dependent quest solutions may be especially appealing if you want character development to shape both combat and exploration.

Strengths

  • Saving action points and setting up elemental interactions could reward planning across turns.
  • Origin stories and flexible character development offer different ways to define what the party means to you.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer prescribed character roles may find the open build rules demand more decisions than they want.

Who it is for: Players interested in party builds, environmental tactics and quests approached through developed character abilities.

Play notes: The Switch edition's single-system play is for one player. Switch–Steam cross-saves require owning the game on both platforms.
