About this game

Equip a stagecoach and send four heroes on an expedition, directing their actions in turn-based battles. Keeping the group together involves more than choosing attacks: relationships can create useful cooperation or damaging dysfunction. At inns, activities let you manage stress and relationships before continuing the journey. Playable backstories also explore the heroes' origins. The expedition structure gives failure a role in progression. An unsuccessful Confessions journey can still provide resources for improving a later attempt. Kingdoms offers a separate strategic campaign built around a persistent roster of heroes, with a questline leading toward the source of its threat. These modes frame party management differently: one follows successive expeditions, while the other maintains a roster across its campaign.

8.4 / 10Nintendo Switch

Party tactics for players willing to manage strained relationships alongside their next move.

Relationships affecting combat can make the party itself a source of tactical uncertainty, which may appeal if you enjoy adapting to imperfect companions. Expedition rewards and Kingdoms' persistent roster offer different structures for players interested in developing plans beyond a single battle.

Strengths

  • Inn activities connect relationship management to preparation for subsequent encounters.
  • Resources from failed expeditions can give another attempt a practical starting point.

Weaknesses

  • Players who want reliably cooperative party members may dislike relationships disrupting their plans.

Who it is for: Turn-based players comfortable revising plans, managing party stress and learning through unsuccessful expeditions.

Play notes: Combat stress can trigger a meltdown, so heroes' mental state is a consequential part of party management.
