About this game

Curse of the Dead Gods sends you into dark temple passages to battle enemies and negotiate hazards such as fire-spewing statues, explosives and hidden spikes. Collect swords, spears, bows and guns, then combine your equipment with relics that change your abilities. Death starts another attempt, while progress across runs unlocks harder modes and weapons that can be upgraded. Curses change the conditions of a run. One divides incoming damage between health and gold; another turns pressure-triggered spikes into rhythmic traps. Your decisions therefore involve both the equipment you collect and the rules currently governing the temple. You can also use Assist Mode's difficulty options to customise the challenge.

8.0 / 10Nintendo Switch

A promising fit for players who enjoy adapting combat plans to changing rules.

Relics and curse effects suggest a combat loop built around revising your approach as an attempt develops. The death-and-retry structure is likely to suit players who treat another expedition as a chance to reconsider equipment and tactics.

Strengths

  • Ability-changing relics and specific curse effects can give equipment decisions consequences beyond simply choosing a weapon.
  • Rhythmic spike traps suggest opportunities to turn environmental danger into a tactical resource.

Weaknesses

  • Restarting after death may interrupt the sense of continuous advancement for players who prefer an uninterrupted journey.

Who it is for: Players interested in weapon combinations, changing combat conditions and repeated attempts at a dangerous temple.
