About this game

CrossCode follows Lea on a journey to recover her memories inside a fictional MMO of the distant future. You explore its world and enter puzzle dungeons, where bouncing-ball mechanics give you concrete problems to work out. Each dungeon has its own puzzle mechanics, so exploration includes learning how different spaces operate. Combat adds another set of choices. Use tools to expose and exploit enemy weaknesses, then choose equipment and skills for your approach. Cold, Heat, Shock and Wave form the game's elemental toolkit. The adventure uses 16-bit-style graphics and is played solo, despite its MMO setting. This entry covers the base game; A New Home is separately sold DLC.

8.2 / 10Nintendo Switch

Best suited to players who want to think through dungeon puzzles as well as build for action combat.

Bouncing-ball puzzles and enemy weaknesses give problem-solving a role alongside equipment and skill choices. That combination may suit players who enjoy changing how they engage with an RPG, while those primarily seeking battles may be less interested in the dungeon puzzles.

Strengths

  • Bouncing-ball puzzles give aiming a purpose beyond simply selecting a target.
  • Equipment, skills and enemy weaknesses provide several factors to consider when preparing for combat.

Weaknesses

  • Puzzle dungeons may interrupt the preferred momentum of players who mainly want continuous combat.

Who it is for: Players interested in both action RPG builds and solving spatial puzzle problems.

Play notes: The MMO is the fictional setting of a single-player game; A New Home is separate DLC.
