About this game
Brothers in Arms - Hell's Highway is a PlayStation 3 shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, aiming and shooting, and positioning and evasion. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Brothers in Arms places squad leadership at the heart of its World War II shooting. Directing covering fire and moving comrades into position are central to its main campaigns, which follow airborne soldiers through battles shaped by their responsibility to one another.

Squad tactics and character drama hold up, while familiar missions and PS3 friction restrain the whole.
The original PS3 Hell's Highway is strongest when Matt Baker directs squads to suppress enemy positions, finds a safe route and completes a flank himself. Machine-gun, assault and bazooka units give cover a tactical role rather than making it a temporary pause in shooting. Some light cover can be destroyed, forcing both sides to reconsider position. Baker's memories, his strained relationships and expressive performances give these encounters more human context than another sequence of targets would. The campaign does not always develop that promise. Solo clearances and larger firefights interrupt each other, but several sniper, tank and village scenarios remain familiar war-shooter territory. Recon collectibles, replayable missions and an unlocked Authentic difficulty add reasons to return. Historical online multiplayer was thin and reportedly laggy at launch; it is not counted as a dependable present-day benefit. PS3-specific coverage also records an initial install, unclear checkpoint signalling, a cover camera that catches on nearby objects, and awkward grenade or sprint inputs. Basic aiming and squad commands remain sound, yet such frictions explain why the tactical premise is more impressive than its polish. This rating covers the original offline PS3 campaign and does not attribute later PlayStation Move hardware to its 2008 control scheme.
Strengths
- Suppression and flanking make squad orders meaningful
- Performances and music give the squad's story emotional weight
- Destructible cover and specialized units reward repositioning
Weaknesses
- Several familiar World War II mission patterns recur
- Cover camera, checkpoints and grenade input interrupt play
- Launch multiplayer was thin and lag-prone
Who it is for: Players who prefer directing a squad and planning a flank over nonstop solo shooting.
Play notes: Original offline PS3 campaign only; current online service is unverified, and Move support is not assumed.
