About this game

Borderlands Legendary Collection brings together Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition, Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Fighting bandits and creatures goes hand in hand with collecting weapons. The first game's mercenaries have distinct skill trees, linking your character choice to the abilities available during the search for alien technology on Pandora. The collection also follows Vault Hunters opposing Handsome Jack in Borderlands 2, then explores his earlier rise in The Pre-Sequel. These are separate adventures, and all three can be played alone or cooperatively in local split-screen. Additional content is part of the package, but Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary is excluded. The physical Switch package requires downloads for Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel.

8.0 / 10Nintendo Switch

A suitable collection for players who want weapon hunting to give their shooting a continuing purpose.

The combination of combat, weapon collecting and character skills could appeal to players who enjoy shaping how they fight. Local split-screen offers a way to share each adventure, while the collection's separate stories provide different entry points into Pandora and Handsome Jack's role.

Strengths

  • Weapons and character skills may make combat decisions interesting beyond aiming alone.
  • Local split-screen across the included games can support a continuing couch-cooperative project.

Weaknesses

  • Players uninterested in collecting weapons may find the loot emphasis less motivating.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy shooting, weapon collecting and cooperative adventures with character abilities.

Play notes: Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary is excluded. The physical Switch package requires digital downloads for Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel.

Separate campaigns give players several starting points, though the collection should be approached as multiple adventures rather than one continuous progression.
