About this game

Aaru's Awakening is a PlayStation 3 action game centered on area and route exploration, movement and immediate actions, and enemy and hazard responses. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Creative teleport routes ask for patience on PS3.

Aaru’s Awakening combines a dash with an aimed light orb that lets its creature protagonist teleport through tight spaces or into enemies. Chaining the two actions can create satisfying routes, although encounters repeatedly return to the same teleport attack. Timed stages and leaderboards invite refinement. The harder hazards and sparse hints also demand trial and error, while a separate PS3 reviewer notes that numerous checkpoints help make retries possible. Hand-drawn scenery and creature animation give the world energy, even if similar colours sometimes hide a threat. Source metadata matters here: a GameFAQs page appears beneath PS4 navigation, but its author-selected Product Release is PS3. That account says an unspecified patch moved jumping from upward-stick input to L1 and made it smoother for the writer; twin-stick teleporting becomes learnable. Famitsu’s PS3 reviewers also describe a restricted shoulder-button-and-stick remapping scheme. The result has a worthwhile movement idea, but enjoyment depends on willingness to practise unusual inputs and memorise danger.

Strengths

  • Dash and teleport combine into interesting traversal.
  • Hand-drawn motion and timed goals reward attention.

Weaknesses

  • Combat relies on a narrow attack solution.
  • Hazards and scant hints demand trial and error.

Who it is for: Players willing to repeat routes while learning an unusual twin-stick scheme.

Play notes: PS3 product-selected review after an unspecified jump patch; no claim that its control preference applies to all versions.
