About this game

Aaru's Awakening is a PlayStation 4 action game centered on area and route exploration, enemy and hazard responses, and stage objectives. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD output, HDR or PS4 Pro modes, HDD streaming, surround audio, and television-distance interfaces need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include HDD installs and loading, patch version, storage space, DualShock 4 battery life, PS Camera or PS VR requirements, visual modes, frame rate, and network services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Striking art and clever routes meet unreliable precision on PS4.

Aaru’s Awakening builds its platform puzzles around dashing, firing a light orb and teleporting to its location. The combination can open inventive routes through narrow passages and can also eliminate enemies, although combat leans too heavily on that single attack. Its handmade landscapes, detailed creatures and atmospheric music give the journey a memorable identity. Later traps are less satisfying: the short campaign increasingly demands memorised sequences, deaths at checkpoints and exact timing rather than clear first-sight decisions. Two reviews that explicitly test PS4 describe the console control scheme and its limits. DualShock 4 shoulder buttons handle the main abilities while the right stick aims the orb; one test reports the character catching on walls and commands that do not respond quickly enough for the demanded precision. The campaign can be finished in roughly two hours, with speed trophies for those eager to refine a route. That structure suits a patient challenge seeker better than a player looking for consistently fair movement.

Strengths

  • Dash and teleport can create inventive routes.
  • Hand-drawn art and ambient music establish a vivid world.

Weaknesses

  • Combat repeats the same teleport solution.
  • Trap memorisation and imprecise response intensify retries.

Who it is for: Players drawn to handmade art and willing to practise exact teleport sequences.

A short campaign increasingly depends on memorised hazards and checkpoint retries, with timed trophies as a narrow replay incentive.

Dash and aimed teleport can chain expressive routes, but combat keeps returning to the same teleport collision.

The DualShock 4 scheme is documented, while wall sticking and insufficient response impede exact maneuvers.
