About this game

Watch Dogs follows Aiden Pearce as he investigates the forces behind a family tragedy in Chicago. The city’s ctOS management network turns information and street infrastructure into tools for his pursuit. Switch between security cameras to scout guards, use environmental devices to create opportunities, or enter directly with stealth and weapons. Vehicle chases connect different parts of the city. Hacking abilities and action skills expand with progression, while investigations and side activities offer objectives beyond the main story.

Watch Dogs

Engaging hacking tools amid substantial old-console compromises.

Watch Dogs is strongest when city infrastructure becomes a tool for planning. Following cameras to scout guards and triggering devices creates openings beyond conventional cover shooting. Unlocks and investigations keep objectives available, but forced chases, tailing and repeated attempts interrupt that freedom, and the revenge plot is not compelling enough to carry the whole journey. These uneven missions make an interest in experimentation more important than simply wanting another large city to clear. PS3 compromises are substantial: blurry textures, fewer people and pop-in weaken the city. On-foot shooting and stealth work well, but loose driving and tearing make observation less consistent. The tools remain engaging for players who can accept the old-console limitations.

Strengths

  • Camera and device-based infiltration
  • Varied abilities and investigations

Weaknesses

  • Repetitive forced chases and tailing
  • Old-console visual and driving friction

Who it is for: Action players interested in remote scouting and experimenting with environmental infiltration.

Play notes: Independent judgment from Jeff Marchiafava’s June 2, 2014 PS3 test, explicitly extending old-generation observations to PS3 and Xbox360. Not our playtest; model, patch, hours unspecified. New-console screenshots are not old-console image evidence. Offline content only. Equal scores reflect similar compromises, not a controlled performance comparison.

Unlocks, investigations and side activities keep objectives available, and remote scouting varies familiar scenarios. Tailing, retries and an unconvincing revenge story still make the quantity feel repetitive.

Dimension

Camera hopping, environmental devices and direct infiltration reward observation and positioning. Forced chases and scripted reinforcements sometimes narrow those choices, so hacking does not refresh every mission equally.

Reviewed8.2 / 100.4
Dimension

The PS3 evidence identifies blurry faces, low-resolution textures and fewer people, with pop-in and tearing disrupting continuity. Useful environmental interactions do not fully compensate for those compromises.

Reviewed6.5 / 100.2
Dimension

The PS3 test finds on-foot shooting and stealth effective, with prompts helping time environmental hacks. Loose driving needs adjustment, while pop-in and tearing interfere with observing the city consistently.
