About this game
Valkyria Chronicles 4 follows Commander Claude Wallace and Federation Squad E in their war against the Empire. In BLiTZ battles, you survey the map, spend Command Points to activate soldiers, then move and aim from their perspective. Movement uses each soldier's Action Points, and crossing an enemy's firing line can draw interception fire even on your turn. Choose which classes receive training experience and use scouts to locate targets for a grenadier's arcing mortar shots. The campaign develops through Book Mode's story and battle episodes, while CANVAS gives its soldiers and battlefields a watercolor illustration style. Your recurring decisions concern who acts, how far they advance and which units can support the next move.
Collected in series
Valkyria Chronicles tells squad-centered war stories through tactical RPG battles and a watercolor-like visual style. You plan from a map, then directly move and aim individual soldiers or tanks, making cover, routes and each unit’s role matter.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A promising fit for tactical planners who also want to carry out their soldiers' movements and attacks.
The split between command-map planning and direct movement can make a plan's execution as involving as its formation. Scouting for mortar fire adds a reason to think about cooperation between classes rather than treating each activation in isolation.
Strengths
- Scouting and indirect mortar fire can reward planning across several units.
- Allocating training experience by class gives squad-building preferences a concrete outlet.
Weaknesses
- Players seeking entirely deliberative tactics may find movement under interception fire an unwelcome action demand.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy managing a squad's action budget and then personally executing its advances.
Play notes: Bonus DLC is offered separately or with Complete Edition; it is not assumed to be included in the base game.
