About this game

Valvatorez's revolt against the Netherworld government unfolds through story scenes, preparation at the Hades base and battles on gridded maps. You move units and choose their actions, but positioning is not limited to walking: allies and enemies can be lifted and thrown. Monster units can also become weapons through Magichange, creating another way to use your team. Development continues away from the next story battle. Enter an Item World to strengthen its associated equipment, or use the Cheat Shop to adjust rewards and enemy strength around your training goals. The console reissue also includes additional scenarios such as the Fuka & Desco and Time Leap stories. Battles, equipment development and adjustable training conditions give you several connected systems to work with.

8.6 / 10Nintendo Switch

A tactical fit for players who enjoy experimenting with unit roles and equipment growth.

Throwing units and transforming monsters into weapons invite you to treat the team as a set of interacting tools. Item Worlds and adjustable training parameters should appeal to players who enjoy development between story battles, though that extra planning may be less attractive if you mainly want the next plot scene.

Strengths

  • Lifting and throwing make repositioning an active tactical tool.
  • Item Worlds give equipment its own development route beyond the story battles.

Weaknesses

  • Players focused on following the plot may find the separate equipment and training systems more involvement than they want.

Who it is for: Players who like testing tactical combinations and spending time improving a team's equipment and capabilities.
