About this game

The Banner Saga 2 places you in charge of a caravan travelling through a world in collapse. Manage limited resources along the journey and command fighters in chess-like battles on tactical boards. Your decisions affect the lives of the characters travelling with you, connecting the caravan's future with the choices made along the way. This is the middle chapter of the Banner Saga trilogy. Players continuing from the first game can carry their earlier choices forward; newcomers can instead begin with preset characters. The journey and caravan management remain part of the adventure alongside combat, rather than serving only as a backdrop. Hand-drawn combat sequences and animation establish the game's two-dimensional visual style.

8.1 / 10Nintendo Switch

A caravan-led strategy story for players willing to make decisions with consequences for their cast.

Resource management and decisions about character survival suggest pressure that extends beyond individual battles. Carrying earlier choices into this middle chapter may be especially appealing to players who value continuity across a long-form story.

Strengths

  • Caravan management gives players who enjoy responsibility for a group something to consider beyond the battle board.
  • Carried-over choices can make the sequel feel personally connected to an earlier journey.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking a self-contained story may be less drawn to a middle chapter built around continuing earlier events.

Who it is for: Players interested in tactical boards, limited-resource decisions and an ongoing story shaped by their choices.

Play notes: A preset start is available, but this remains the trilogy's second chapter rather than a new standalone narrative.
