Unpacking

Unpacking

Unpacking turns moving house into a placement puzzle: take possessions out of boxes and find places for them. Across successive homes, the objects that travel with their owner—and those left behind—provide clues to her life.

About this game

Open the boxes and arrange their contents in a new home. You stack plates, hang towels and organise bookshelves, combining the practical puzzle of fitting belongings into a space with home decoration. The game follows successive moves, so each home provides another setting for the same concrete activity. The story is carried by possessions that return and things that are left behind, asking you to notice the belongings as well as place them. There is no gameplay timer. If you prefer arranging the rooms without placement restrictions, the Allow items anywhere option removes that puzzle element and lets you progress.

8.6 / 10Nintendo Switch

A fit for players who enjoy arranging spaces and interpreting everyday objects.

With no timer, placement can be approached at a pace chosen by the player. The recurring possessions could make careful observation as relevant as organisation, especially for readers who enjoy inferring a story from details. Removing placement restrictions offers another approach, though it changes the puzzle's role.

Strengths

  • The absence of a timer may suit players who want room to consider where each possession belongs.
  • Object-based storytelling could reward the attention of players who like connecting small details across different settings.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer a directly explained story may find clues carried by possessions less satisfying than explicit narration.

Who it is for: Players interested in domestic arrangement, untimed puzzles and stories pieced together through everyday belongings.

Play notes: Allow items anywhere removes the placement puzzle restrictions; choose it if unrestricted arrangement matters more to you than solving those constraints.

Successive house moves provide the structure, while the lack of a timer leaves the pace of placement to you. This may suit players who prefer pausing over details to working against a countdown.

Finding places for plates, towels and books connects the puzzle to recognisable household tasks. That may appeal to players who enjoy ordering a space more than pursuing a competitive objective.

Pixel-art rooms and a story carried by belongings could encourage players who enjoy close observation to read significance into ordinary objects. This is an inference about the presentation's appeal, not a claim of a guaranteed emotional response.

The Switch version supports gamepad, touch and gyro configurations, including one-handed play. These give players alternative input approaches, without establishing which will be most comfortable for an individual.
