About this game

Take the mayor's seat and develop a city while balancing its economy against residents' needs. Place service buildings, provide education and healthcare, and manage transport within a simulated traffic system. Districts let you apply policies to particular parts of the city, giving local decisions a role alongside citywide management. This edition includes After Dark and Snowfall. After Dark brings leisure and tourism specializations into day-and-night management, while Snowfall adds streetcars and snow maps where heating becomes an infrastructure concern. The Switch interface is reworked for the console, with additional tutorials and HD Rumble feedback that helps identify efficient areas for service buildings when that feature is available.

7.2 / 10Nintendo Switch

Best aligned with players who want to run a city as well as design it.

Services, finances, traffic and district policies give city design consequences to consider. If managing competing needs is the attraction, the included nighttime specializations and heating demands add distinct reasons to revisit a plan.

Strengths

  • District policies offer a way to give different areas their own management priorities.
  • The included expansions can broaden planning beyond basic services through tourism and cold-weather infrastructure.

Weaknesses

  • For players interested mainly in arranging a skyline, the need to balance services and finances may feel like an obligation.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy transport planning, public-service tradeoffs and adjusting a city as its needs develop.

Play notes: Heating demands described here concern Snowfall's snow maps; they should not be assumed to govern every map.
