About this game

SpongeBob and Patrick's wish-granting Mermaid's Tears open portals to other worlds, sending SpongeBob on a rescue adventure. You guide him through seven Wishworlds, including western Jellyfish Fields and a Halloween version of Rock Bottom, unlocking platforming moves such as Fishhook Swing and Karate Kick along the way. Balloon-Patrick accompanies the journey with dialogue, while outfits including SnailBob and SpongeGar change SpongeBob's appearance. Songs from the television series accompany the adventure. The journey is single-player: Patrick's presence is part of the story and companionship as SpongeBob works to bring his missing friends home.

Collected in series

SpongeBob SquarePants games bring the cartoon’s underwater nonsense into playable adventures. Platforming, character abilities and playful experiments turn Bikini Bottom and stranger places into comic playgrounds, with some games giving SpongeBob’s friends the starring role.

8.1 / 10Nintendo Switch

A likely fit for cartoon fans who want movement challenges wrapped in familiar character banter.

Unlockable traversal moves give the rescue journey a mechanical thread, while differently themed Wishworlds provide changes of setting. Patrick's dialogue and series music should matter most to players who enjoy the show's company as much as the platforming.

Strengths

  • New movement abilities offer a concrete reason to engage with the platforming.
  • Themed worlds and series songs may make familiar characters enjoyable to revisit in different settings.

Who it is for: SpongeBob fans interested in a solo platform adventure with costumes and companion dialogue.

Play notes: This is a single-player adventure, including when Balloon-Patrick accompanies SpongeBob.
