About this game
Bikini Bottom is threatened by Plankton's robots, and SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy take on the rescue in this remake. Progress through the adventure's locations by using each character's abilities: Sandy swings and glides with her lasso, while SpongeBob can turn his underpants into a bungee cord. Locations contain separate segments, puzzles and story situations, with familiar television characters along the way. The multiplayer option has its own stages, where a pair of players cooperate against successive robot waves. It is a distinct activity from progressing through the adventure's locations. For solo traversal, the adjustable camera lets you look down to judge a jump; the Switch update also introduced robot-boss rematches after their first defeat.
Collected in series
SpongeBob SquarePants games bring the cartoon’s underwater nonsense into playable adventures. Platforming, character abilities and playful experiments turn Bikini Bottom and stranger places into comic playgrounds, with some games giving SpongeBob’s friends the starring role.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A plausible fit for fans who want character abilities to shape a cartoon adventure.
Different traversal tools could make recognizing the right character's role more interesting than simply moving through a familiar setting. The separate wave mode offers another activity for a pair, although it should not be mistaken for shared campaign progression.
Strengths
- Sandy's gliding and SpongeBob's bungee jumps could give traversal a playful sense of character.
- Dedicated wave stages may suit pairs who want a focused robot-fighting activity.
Who it is for: Players drawn to SpongeBob's characters and ability-based platform exploration.
Play notes: Cooperative play uses dedicated multiplayer stages. Each player needs a compatible controller.
