About this game

Skate 2 is a Xbox 360 racing game centered on vehicle control, route judgment, and speed and overtaking management. Tracks raise pressure through corners, rivals, and time targets, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Speed, track boundaries, and vehicle feedback determine driving readability, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that visibility, collisions, steering precision, wheel support, or loading can limit consistency. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Expressive skating is held back by clumsy off-board controls.

Skate 2 on Xbox 360 builds its appeal around the right-stick flick system: trick choice and jump timing come from practiced hand motion rather than a simple button sequence. Linking moves through rebuilt New San Vanelona can feel convincingly physical. New street spots, security guards, varied challenges and the Hall of Meat wipeout scoring give players reasons to improvise beyond a prescribed career path. The ability to step off the board and move props should make custom lines easier to build. In the direct Xbox 360 review, however, walking felt cumbersome, prop placement was frequently frustrating and tasks demanding an exact trick could become a test of finicky stick timing. The remodeled city and spectacular crashes communicate more personality than the thin corporate-control premise. Skating itself is the compelling part; the actions required to prepare a session sometimes break its rhythm. Multiplayer options were described in the 2009 review, but this assessment does not claim they remain available. Nor does it turn a feature blurb into a measured frame-rate result.

Strengths

  • Stick-driven tricks, city lines and wipeout goals reward practice.

Weaknesses

  • Exact-trick tasks, walking and prop placement create friction.

Who it is for: Xbox 360 players keen to practice nuanced board control and create lines.

Play notes: Online features are historical; current service and frame rate are unverified.
