About this game
DiRT 2 is a Xbox 360 racing game centered on driving and route control, route judgment, and speed and overtaking management. Tracks raise pressure through corners, rivals, and time targets, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Speed, track boundaries, and vehicle feedback determine driving readability, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that visibility, collisions, steering precision, wheel support, or loading can limit consistency. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Xbox 360AI review

Responsive off-road racing with a rich tour and lighter simulation depth.
The Xbox 360 edition of Dirt 2 turns rally, trucks and other off-road disciplines into a substantial travelling career. Cars respond differently across loose dirt, tarmac and jumps, yet steering remains readable enough to encourage careful lines. Adjustable difficulty, vehicle kits and a limited flashback rewind make mistakes recoverable without removing the pleasure of improving a run. More than a hundred events give the tour considerable breadth. Selecting races inside an RV, watching mud gather on deforming vehicles, hearing the engines and listening to useful codriver calls make the competition feel situated rather than abstract. The relationships with rival drivers are less responsive than the presentation implies, because they largely follow results. Its forgiving damage also will not satisfy someone wanting a severe simulation. Contemporary console coverage describes detailed imagery at a 30 fps target and useful configuration choices; this judgment does not transfer performance from the later PC release or criticism of the separate Wii build. It suits players seeking accessible but involving off-road competition.
Strengths
- Varied handling, clear codriver calls and a long tour reinforce each other.
Weaknesses
- Rival relationships are thin and damage is forgiving.
Who it is for: Drivers who want accessible off-road racing with room to improve.
Play notes: Only the 2009 Xbox 360 build is assessed; current online play is unverified.
