About this game

Sifu follows a martial artist hunting the people who killed their family. Encounters ask you to respond to attacks, time a parry to create an opening and break an enemy's structure for a takedown. Nearby objects can become thrown distractions or improvised weapons, making the surroundings part of your combat choices. Defeat has an unusual cost: a pendant brings you back at an older age, trading maximum health for greater offensive power. You can revisit completed chapters to improve the age carried forward, discover shortcuts back to bosses and invest additional experience in permanent skill unlocks. Progress therefore includes both pushing ahead and returning with a better plan, rather than simply surviving the current exchange.

8.6 / 10Nintendo Switch

A strong conceptual fit for players who enjoy refining defensive timing and improving repeated attempts.

Parries and structure breaks give defensive decisions a direct offensive payoff, while environmental weapons broaden the available responses. Aging and chapter replay make cleaner attempts a meaningful goal, which is likely to appeal most when repetition itself is part of the enjoyment.

Strengths

  • Timed defence can create the opening for an attack, encouraging attention to an opponent's actions.
  • Chapter replay, shortcuts and permanent skills provide distinct ways to prepare a better attempt.

Weaknesses

  • Players chiefly interested in moving straight through a story may find the incentive to revisit chapters less appealing.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy close-combat timing, learning from failed attempts and revisiting encounters with a revised approach.

Play notes: Revival changes the health–offence balance: an older protagonist has less maximum health but greater offensive power.
