About this game
Lead a historical empire by establishing settlements, constructing wonders and pursuing technological breakthroughs. As you explore and expand, choose whether to conquer competing powers or cooperate with them. Your territory grows through these decisions, while development continues across the Ages. With the Test of Time update, you can retain one civilization throughout a campaign or change civilizations at Age Transitions. Optional Triumph objectives replace Legacy Paths, providing additional goals to pursue as your empire develops. Nintendo Switch 2 Edition adds Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and a localized tutorial for that input method. These features belong to the upgraded edition; simply running the original Switch release on Switch 2 does not add them.
Collected in series
Sid Meier’s Civilization is a turn-based strategy series about guiding a society through settlement, research, diplomacy and conflict. Historical entries and a science-fiction branch turn the map into a web of decisions whose consequences unfold over many turns.

Nintendo Switch 2AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
An empire-building option for players who want to choose between continuity and reinvention.
Retaining or changing civilizations can give players different ways to approach an empire's identity across Ages. If you enjoy connecting settlement growth, technology and rival relations, optional Triumphs offer further goals without making those objectives compulsory.
Strengths
- Civilization continuity and switching offer different approaches to a campaign's identity.
- Optional Triumphs can appeal to players who like additional objectives while choosing their own priorities.
Who it is for: Players interested in developing an empire through settlement building and choosing between cooperation, conquest and civilization change.
Play notes: The continuity and Triumph rules described here require the Test of Time update; mouse controls require Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
