About this game

SD Gundam - GCentury is a PlayStation shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, combat encounters, and area and route exploration. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while early 3D graphics, pre-rendered backgrounds, CD audio, and full-motion video need to preserve targets and interface readability on a television. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include disc loading, Memory Card saves, regional video standards, digital or analog control support, vibration, and dedicated peripherals affect original-hardware use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Collected in series

SD Gundam gives Gundam's mobile suits big heads and compact bodies, then sends them into games ranging from tactical battles to action RPGs. In G Generation, you assemble squads and develop machines; in action entries, you pilot them directly and combine attacks. Bringing favorite suits and pilots together is a recurring pleasure.

A broad Gundam strategy framework held back by constant interruption.

Building Gundam armies, deploying them on a strategic map and entering direct battles is a promising way to make planning tangible. Numerous units, scenarios and modes leave plenty for series enthusiasts to explore, and powerful machines fighting mass-produced opposition can be satisfying. However, weak computer reasoning and defensive disparities undermine balanced opposition, while distorted proportions make some familiar machines look awkward. The greatest problem is frequent interruption: selecting units, entering bases and changing screens repeatedly triggers loading, and turning in action battles can feel delayed. Rather than reinforcing one another smoothly, the two layers keep stopping. There is an enjoyable framework here for devoted strategy-action fans, but players seeking brisk battles or sustained campaign momentum should look elsewhere.

Strengths

  • Linked strategic deployments and action battles
  • Broad unit and scenario selection

Weaknesses

  • Frequent loading disrupts play
  • Delayed turning response
  • Uneven CPU and unit balance
  • Distorted model proportions

Who it is for: Gundam strategy-action enthusiasts with high tolerance for waiting.

Play notes: Original PS1 release; historical player reports do not establish a universal loading duration.
