About this game

Pokémon Violet puts catching, training and battling into an open journey through Paldea. Miraidon provides forms for travelling over land, water and through the air. Rather than following a fixed route, you can move between three main stories: challenge Gyms in pursuit of Champion Rank, confront Titan Pokémon guarding rare ingredients, or use Auto Battle against Team Star grunts to reach their boss. Building a team also means considering Terastallization. This phenomenon gives Pokémon a jewel-like appearance and changes their type to their Tera Type during battle. It adds another type to account for alongside the Pokémon you have caught and trained. Your next destination and your next battle preparation are therefore separate decisions: which story to pursue, and how to use your team when you arrive.

Collected in series

Pokémon is a role-playing series that began in 1996. As a Trainer, you travel the world meeting, catching and raising Pokémon. Filling your Pokédex, building a team and taking on rivals shape the adventure, while trading with friends brings new partners along for the journey.

7.9 / 10Nintendo Switch

A route-driven Pokémon adventure for collectors who enjoy setting their own priorities.

Choosing between Gym challenges, Titan encounters and Team Star activities should suit players who like deciding what to pursue next. Terastallization gives type-conscious battlers another reason to reconsider a team's matchups.

Strengths

  • The three story paths may help players alternate between different goals rather than concentrate on one activity.
  • Changing a Pokémon's type through Terastallization should appeal to players who enjoy planning around type relationships.

Weaknesses

  • Players who prefer a fixed itinerary may find the choice of story and destination an extra responsibility.

Who it is for: Pokémon collectors who want exploration choices alongside battles shaped by type changes.

Play notes: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is separate paid DLC and is outside this base-game package.
