About this game

Oddworld - New 'n' Tasty is a PlayStation Vita action game centered on area and route exploration, movement and immediate actions, and enemy and hazard responses. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while the high-density portable display, stereo audio, touch feedback, and handheld interface need to keep text, targets, and state changes clear at a small scale. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include proprietary memory cards, touch or gyroscope input, battery life, download availability, cross-platform features, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Excellent rescue puzzles slowed by Vita loading

The PS Vita edition of Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty! keeps Abe's stealth, puzzle-platforming and Mudokon rescues at the center of play. Watching patrols and choosing the right moment to act gives a rescue genuine tension, while the strange industrial world and remade characters retain a strong identity on the handheld. It is more than a nostalgia exercise. However, the trial-and-error structure already requires repeated attempts, and the Vita review's notably longer loading makes those pauses more intrusive. Vita-specific criticism also finds the control adaptation sound but describes a visual reduction relative to larger-screen builds. Those are observations about this release, not inherited PlayStation 4 performance figures. Later patch behavior has not been independently verified, so the technical score reflects review-era evidence rather than a claim about every current installation. It is a good fit for portable players who enjoy methodical, sometimes unforgiving rescue puzzles and can tolerate breaks between attempts.

Strengths

  • Stealth, puzzles and Mudokon rescue give each movement a meaningful risk.
  • The remade industrial world remains evocative on Vita despite reduced detail.

Weaknesses

  • Rescue retries are rewarding but can slow the story's forward motion.
  • Controls translate well to Vita, but review-era loading is longer than PS4 and interrupts retries.

Who it is for: Portable players who enjoy deliberate stealth and retry-heavy puzzles.

Play notes: Review-era Vita loading was long; later patch behavior is unverified.
