About this game
METAL GEAR RISING REVENGEANCE is a Xbox 360 shooter game centered on combat encounters, story, case, or mission progress, and weapon and firepower management. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

A strongly recommended action spin-off whose slicing and bosses stand out, despite a short campaign and camera friction.
The original Xbox 360 Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance turns Raiden into the center of a fast character-action game. It is not a stealth-led Metal Gear sequel. Directional Blade Mode cuts feed directly into Zandatsu finishers, which restore resources and reward attacking with intent. Combos, ninja running and purchasable boss weapons keep the pace varied. Extravagant encounters and music that builds through boss phases give the spectacle real force, while codec exchanges preserve series identity. The broader political story and several locations are less convincing. Its campaign is brief, with on-disc VR missions and unlocks supporting replay rather than providing a long second story. Contemporary Xbox 360 criticism is divided: one account celebrates tactical options, while another finds ordinary fights over-reliant on parries and flags camera obstruction and occasional input ambiguity. Digital Foundry's retail like-for-like tests report an Xbox 360 frame-rate advantage over PS3 in comparable scenes and say demo-era tearing is gone. Its separate gameplay tests also describe variable performance on both consoles, so this is not a locked-smoothness claim. The base release remains easy to recommend to action fans, with those control and length limits plainly attached. Later PC changes, backward-compatible execution and region-specific extra DLC are outside this score.
Strengths
- Distinctive slicing, energy recovery and weapon options
- Memorable bosses and escalating soundtrack
- Comparative retail Xbox 360 frame-rate advantage
Weaknesses
- Brief campaign and uneven wider story
- Parry-heavy encounters and obstructive camera
- Variable performance and underexplained lock-on
Who it is for: Players who favor fast character action, boss challenges and combat mastery over a long stealth campaign.
Play notes: Original Xbox 360 base game only. Extra VR DLC, the PC port and later backward-compatible performance are excluded; current store availability was not verified.
