About this game

Hornet's journey leads upward through Pharloom, an insect kingdom of connected environments. You fight with her needle, dash around opponents and attack from the air, while crafted weapons, traps and mechanisms add options for combat and exploration. Quests send you after rare creatures and into mysteries involving the kingdom's inhabitants. Exploration also carries a recovery decision: defeat leaves currency behind, and another defeat before retrieving it means losing that stash. Pushing farther and returning to recover what you dropped therefore have different stakes. Hand-crafted two-dimensional scenery and Christopher Larkin's orchestral score accompany the ascent, giving the adventure a distinct visual and musical setting.

8.2 / 10Nintendo Switch

An exploration-led action adventure for players who welcome experimentation and recovery after defeat.

Hornet's needle and aerial movement place execution alongside a craftable toolset. Exploring connected areas also means weighing progress against the risk of losing currency left behind, a tradeoff most likely to suit players comfortable with setbacks.

Strengths

  • Tools and traps create options beyond relying on direct attacks alone.
  • Quests give exploration specific targets within the connected kingdom.

Weaknesses

  • A second defeat before recovering currency can make retries frustrating for players who prefer losses to have little consequence.

Who it is for: Players who like movement-based combat, investigating connected spaces and trying different tools.

Play notes: Dropped currency remains at risk until recovered; another defeat can erase that previous stash.
