About this game

Hogwarts Legacy puts you in the role of a student in an open-world action RPG. Explore Hogwarts, visit Hogsmeade and venture into the Forbidden Forest and surrounding countryside. Combat involves learned spells that you can combine to develop your own style. Brewing potions and growing magical plants are also part of the adventure. Completing challenges earns experience and develops your abilities through the progression system. The game is a single-player journey, so exploration and character development belong to your own adventure. Difficulty can be changed during normal gameplay, and Story difficulty removes time pressure from puzzles. The activity choices center on exploring, developing magical skills and using them through the journey; Quidditch is not playable.

7.5 / 10Nintendo Switch

Suited to solo explorers who want learning magic and developing abilities to accompany their travels.

The connection between exploring, learning spells and improving abilities could suit players who like a clear growth objective while roaming. Brewing potions and growing plants provide other magical activities, but the solo structure means that interest needs to stand without a cooperative partner.

Strengths

  • Combining spells could give players room to express a preferred combat approach.
  • Experience from challenges could make exploring new objectives relevant to character growth.

Weaknesses

  • The solo-only design may disappoint players who primarily want a shared wizarding adventure.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy independent exploration, magical preparation and developing a character's spell-based combat style.

Play notes: The game does not include cooperative play or playable Quidditch.
