About this game

Juan returns to an adventure across the worlds of the living and the dead, using wrestling moves against skeletal enemies and through platforming challenges. Guacamelee! 2 brings those activities together: its move set includes Eagle Boost and Pollo Shot, while Juan's chicken form also has powers for fighting, traversal and exploration. As you explore, trainers teach new movement and combat skill sets. Progress therefore includes learning additional ways to use Juan's abilities, alongside confronting enemies and crossing the environment. Mexican culture and folklore shape the setting, with an Electro-Mexican soundtrack accompanying the adventure. You can play alone or bring friends into drop-in local co-op for up to four players, with a compatible controller needed for each participant.

8.6 / 10Nintendo Switch

A good design match for players who want fighting and platforming to draw on the same evolving abilities.

Moves serving both combat and traversal can make learning Juan's abilities useful beyond a single kind of challenge. The chicken form extends that connection, giving players who enjoy experimenting with different forms another focus for exploration.

Strengths

  • Abilities spanning combat and platforming can give learning a new move more than one practical purpose.
  • Chicken powers connect an unusual character form to fighting and exploration, rather than leaving it as decoration.

Weaknesses

  • Players seeking mostly relaxed exploration may find the emphasis on performing platforming moves less aligned with their preferences.

Who it is for: Players who enjoy wrestling-themed action, movement challenges and learning abilities, either alone or with a local co-op group.

Play notes: The verified co-op setup is local, with a compatible controller required for each player.
