About this game
F-ZERO 99 turns racing into a contest of speed and survival. Choose a machine with handling that suits your approach, then steer through a crowded online field. Boost spends the same Power that collisions drain, Pit Areas replenish it, and an exploding machine is eliminated regardless of its position. Spin Attack provides a defensive option, while collected Super Sparks unlock a temporary route along the elevated Skyway. Practice against your ghost to work on a course, then pursue goals that unlock colors and decals for your machine. Play requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, with an internet connection for online racing.
Collected in series
F-Zero is futuristic racing built around hovering machines, extreme speed and hazardous courses. You learn each machine’s handling, pick a line through tight corners and keep clear of damaging barriers, where a small steering correction can decide whether you overtake or crash.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
For racers who enjoy gambling some survival margin on another burst of speed.
Sharing Power between damage and Boost may turn overtaking into a recurring risk decision. The Skyway offers another resource to build toward, giving players an alternative to relying entirely on racing through the pack.
Strengths
- The shared Power budget may make acceleration choices matter beyond the racing line.
- Ghost practice may appeal to players who enjoy refining a route between competitive attempts.
Weaknesses
- Immediate elimination on explosion may frustrate racers who prefer to recover from every mistake within the same race.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy competitive racing, resource management and practicing their own lines.
Play notes: An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required; online races also require an internet connection.
