About this game
Escape the Backrooms takes you through yellow corridors, echoing pool rooms and other strange spaces in search of a way out. Run or hide from hostile entities, learn their different behaviors and work out how to escape each level. The route to safety changes between levels, so recognizing a threat and finding the exit are both part of progressing. Play alone or cooperate online with a group. Escape requires every teammate to reach the exit alive, while proximity voice chat creates a practical complication: the entities can hear you too. Nightmare Mode adds a separate, stricter condition, sending the run back to the beginning after a single death.

Nintendo Switch 2AI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
A fit for groups who enjoy making communication itself part of surviving a horror game.
The shared escape condition makes keeping track of teammates potentially as important as finding the route. Audible voice chat adds a useful tension between coordinating the group and staying quiet near danger.
Strengths
- Distinct entity behaviors give observant players different threats to learn.
- Voice chat can turn an ordinary conversation into a consequential group decision.
Weaknesses
- Requiring everyone to escape may frustrate players who prefer to advance independently.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy learning hostile behavior and coordinating an escape with friends.
Play notes: Online play requires internet access and Nintendo Switch Online; Nightmare Mode restarts the entire run after one death.
