About this game

Dishonored is a PC puzzle game centered on rule recognition, spatial or logical judgment, and successive puzzle solving. Compact stages add conditions and tighter constraints over time, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Graphics, audio, and input feedback need to support decisions directly, while resolution, graphics settings, frame rate, aspect ratio, audio, text scaling, and hardware performance need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that limited explanations, input recognition, repetition, or abrupt difficulty can stall progress. Platform conditions also include OS and hardware requirements, installation media, patches, drivers, DRM and launchers, key binding and controller support, save locations, mod compatibility, servers, and era-specific OS compatibility affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Collected in series

Dishonored is Arkane’s first-person stealth-action series, set in industrial cities threaded with supernatural intrigue. Explore buildings and backstreets, combine powers with tools, and decide whether to slip past an obstacle, subdue someone or fight. Missions leave room for both careful planning and improvised solutions.

Exceptional open stealth and painterly Dunwall with a narrower late campaign.

The original 2012 Windows Dishonored treats infiltration as a system the player can take apart. Blink, possession, weapons, rewired defenses and removable whale-oil batteries let the same target be approached through several logical routes. Lethal or restrained choices also affect Dunwall’s condition. Early missions are especially open, although parts of the roughly thirteen-hour campaign become more directed or crowded later. Decaying streets against immaculate mansions, painterly surfaces and industrial machinery give the city a memorable identity. The PC edition offers a substantial graphics and interface menu. A contemporary review found smooth play on a specified Core i7 and GTX 670 machine, while benchmarks recorded short loads and an issue with graphics settings reverting in offline mode. These are observations for tested hardware and the original build, not a universal promise for every present PC. No later assassin DLC or Definitive Edition content is counted. This version suits players who enjoy devising their own routes and replaying levels to see how their systems combine.

Strengths

  • Powers and devices combine freely, with useful PC configuration.

Weaknesses

  • Some late missions narrow and offline graphics settings may reset.

Who it is for: PC players who enjoy experimenting with creative or nonlethal infiltration.

Play notes: Performance is based on specified 2012 hardware; DLC and Definitive Edition are excluded.
