About this game

Dante accepts Trish's assignment and travels to Mallet Island to confront Mundus. You control the demon hunter in combat, combining sword attacks with dual guns and using jumps as part of his action repertoire. This is the first Devil May Cry rather than a later sequel or collection. The adventure also includes puzzle solving between fights. Dante can release his demonic power through Devil Trigger and transform, linking his supernatural identity to an ability you use in play. The Switch release is a solo game with TV, tabletop and handheld play support.

7.7 / 10Nintendo Switch

A focused prospect for players drawn to sword-and-gun combat and a demonic alter ego.

Combining melee attacks with gunfire could appeal to players who enjoy expressing themselves through attack combinations. Devil Trigger gives Dante's supernatural identity a playable expression, while puzzles offer a different activity between encounters. Those features support a design-based recommendation, without establishing difficulty or combat feel.

Strengths

  • Sword-and-gun combinations may appeal to players who want both attack types in the same combat toolkit.
  • Devil Trigger could strengthen the connection between Dante's demon-hunting role and his own demonic powers.

Who it is for: Solo action players interested in combining melee and ranged attacks, with some puzzle solving alongside combat.

Play notes: This release lists single-player play; the cooperative features of later entries are outside its scope.

Puzzles sit alongside combat encounters. Their presence may suit players who want changes of activity, while those seeking only uninterrupted fighting may prefer a different structure.
