About this game
Dead Rising 2 is a PlayStation 3 action game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, movement and immediate actions, and enemy and hazard responses. Stages build pressure through routes, enemy patterns, and changing objectives, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Animation, hits, camera behavior, and readable hazards determine whether feedback remains dependable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera behavior, collision rules, input mapping, and repeated ground after failure can raise the entry barrier. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Dead Rising is Capcom’s zombie action series, where everyday objects become weapons in crowded malls and streets. You fight through hordes, help survivors and investigate outbreaks, with grisly violence often interrupted by ridiculous costumes and improvised attacks.

Creative timed survival, interrupted by PS3 sector loads.
Dead Rising 2 fills Fortune City with zombies, found objects and expiring requests. Rescuing survivors, finding medicine for Chuck’s daughter and pursuing the truth constantly compete for time. Combining everyday items into outrageous weapons makes the mall a playful laboratory, while carried-over levels give a failed first run a more capable successor. The clock is a central design choice rather than a minor inconvenience: it creates priorities but limits carefree exploration. Casino excess and absurd outfits keep the tone lively without losing the father-daughter motivation. The direct PlayStation 3 review finds that its crowded zombie scenes generally hold together, but notes light tearing and recurring loads whenever a new sector begins. Waiting between timed objectives is especially conspicuous in a game built around urgency. Stiff melee can also turn some boss and rescue situations into frustration. This is the original 2010 PS3 release, not a later remaster or an Xbox-only prologue. Players prepared to treat failure as route learning can find extensive rewards; anyone expecting unhurried wandering may resist the clock.
Strengths
- Weapon crafting and carried progression reward replay.
Weaknesses
- Deadlines and loads make rescues laborious.
Who it is for: Players who plan timed routes and replay.
Play notes: Only the original 2010 PS3 edition is assessed.
