About this game
Dead Island is a PlayStation 3 shooter game centered on area and route exploration, aiming and shooting, and positioning and evasion. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Dead Island turns infected holiday spots and city streets into places to scavenge, complete quests and fight your way onward. The central games combine first-person melee combat with character growth, while spin-offs explore other views of the outbreak.

PlayStation 3AI review

Physical co-op melee is undermined by PS3 launch instability.
Dead Island turns a tropical holiday resort into a melee-focused survival journey. Kicks, improvised weapons, durability and character progression make close encounters physical and occasionally tense. Playing with others can enliven the exploration. The route moves from beach to city and jungle, so the scenery changes even when the missions often return to fetching objects or clearing enemies. Zombies that scale upward with the player weaken the satisfaction of growing stronger. The island and violent combat communicate more than the thin dialogue and story. The direct PlayStation 3 launch review reports tearing, hitches while running, audio glitches and one corrupted save in its tested copy. Those are serious risks to readability and progress, but the incident is not claimed to persist across every later patch. This score concerns the PS3 release, not the remaster, and does not promise that historical online cooperation works today. It suits players drawn to messy melee looting more than those who require reliable saves and consistent motion.
Strengths
- Improvised melee and varied locations create urgency.
Weaknesses
- Repeated errands and PS3 technical risk.
Who it is for: Patient cooperative looting players.
Play notes: Technical observations are limited to the reviewed PS3 launch build.
