About this game
Dead Island is a Xbox 360 shooter game centered on area and route exploration, positioning and evasion, and weapon and firepower management. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD video, DVD streaming, surround audio, HDD installs, and television-distance interfaces need to keep action, state, and text readable. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include disc and HDD installation, storage devices, controller batteries, video connections, resolution and frame rate, Kinect space and calibration, and retired online services affect the current release. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.
Collected in series
Dead Island turns infected holiday spots and city streets into places to scavenge, complete quests and fight your way onward. The central games combine first-person melee combat with character growth, while spin-offs explore other views of the outbreak.

Xbox 360AI review

Melee scavenging works despite Xbox 360 control friction.
Dead Island turns a tropical holiday resort into a melee-focused survival journey. Kicks, improvised weapons, durability and character progression make close encounters physical and occasionally tense. Playing with others can enliven the exploration. The route moves from beach to city and jungle, so the scenery changes even when the missions often return to fetching objects or clearing enemies. Zombies that scale upward with the player weaken the satisfaction of growing stronger. The island and violent combat communicate more than the thin dialogue and story. Contemporary Xbox 360 play reports describe loose camera behavior and erratic aiming in close quarters. The melee impact survives, but the controller does not always make the chosen target feel dependable. This is an Xbox 360 judgment; the separate PS3 reviewer’s corrupted-save incident is not copied here. Later patches and present online access have not been verified. Players who enjoy cycling through weapons with friends may accept the rough edges, whereas those seeking precise controls and consistently purposeful quests are likely to tire of them.
Strengths
- Stamina, weapon wear and co-op vary encounters.
Weaknesses
- Repetitive tasks and uneven camera and aiming.
Who it is for: Players who enjoy cooperative melee looting.
Play notes: Current patch and online-service status remain unverified.
