About this game
Darkwood divides survival between what you collect outside and what you prepare inside. During daylight, explore the forest and scavenge materials for weapons, traps and potions. Fortify your hideout before night brings the focus back to survival. That cycle makes preparation a recurring part of the adventure, rather than a separate activity between story scenes. The forest's map and events incorporate random generation, while a branching storyline lets your decisions affect its inhabitants. Character development includes injecting a strange essence to gain skills and perks. Set in the corrupted woods of the Soviet Bloc, the game asks you to investigate and learn for yourself as you work toward escaping.

Nintendo SwitchAI review
AI reviews are subjective assessments, not player ratings. See each review for its evidence and limitations.Published date:
For horror players who want preparation and uncertainty to drive the tension.
The day-and-night structure can make each scavenging trip feel connected to the next defence of your hideout. Branching encounters and self-directed learning suggest an experience better suited to patient investigation than constant instruction.
Strengths
- Crafting and fortification give daytime discoveries a concrete role in nighttime survival.
- Choices affecting inhabitants can make exploration matter beyond collecting supplies.
Weaknesses
- Learning through investigation may frustrate players who prefer explicit guidance.
Who it is for: Players drawn to survival planning, unsettling settings and discovering rules through experimentation.
