About this game

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a PlayStation 3 shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, story, case, or mission progress, and aiming and shooting. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Lunar movement freshens a familiar, somewhat rough formula.

The Pre-Sequel on PlayStation 3 relocates Borderlands looting to a moon where low-gravity jumps and ground slams add useful vertical movement. Four new classes, lasers and freezing weapons supply further variation, while Australian-flavored voices and Handsome Jack’s backstory reward series followers. Its missions still rely heavily on travelling, killing and collecting, and plentiful oxygen refills make the supposed survival pressure largely toothless. A direct PS3 review also identifies cumbersome inventory menus, occasional hit-detection trouble and enemies clipping into walls in cooperative play. The shooting and loot loop remains enjoyable, but this is closer to a variation than a reinvention. These observations concern the 2014 PS3 base release, not later expansions or the Handsome Collection. Existing fans who want more cooperative builds are the audience; players exhausted by the formula may see too little change.

Strengths

  • Low gravity, slams, new classes and weapons.

Weaknesses

  • Repetitive errands, trivial oxygen and technical roughness.

Who it is for: Existing PS3 fans seeking more cooperative looting.

Play notes: Only the 2014 PS3 base game, not later collections or DLC.
