About this game

Bayonetta follows a witch fighting the forces of Paradiso while searching for her lost past in Vigrid. Her Bullet Arts combines punches and kicks with gunfire from weapons attached to her hands and feet. Dodging at the right moment activates Witch Time, slowing enemies and opening an opportunity to counterattack. As you progress, new weapons introduce different characteristics, including those of a katana and a whip. Combos can culminate in Wicked Weaves, which manifest demonic attacks through Bayonetta's hair, while Torture Attacks summon execution devices against enemies. The recurring challenge is to combine your offensive options with the timing needed to create an opening. The Switch edition also offers optional touchscreen controls through taps and swipes.

8.4 / 10Nintendo Switch

A strong design match for players who enjoy making a narrow dodge window the start of an offensive sequence.

Witch Time turns defensive timing into an opportunity to attack, which may make learning an enemy's approach especially rewarding. Weapons with different characteristics offer another reason to rethink how a combo is assembled as the adventure progresses.

Strengths

  • The dodge-to-counter relationship gives defensive timing a clear offensive purpose.
  • Different weapon characteristics can support experimentation with attack sequences.

Weaknesses

  • Players who dislike close timing may find the late-dodge counterattack loop less appealing.

Who it is for: Action players who enjoy practicing evasive timing and experimenting with melee-and-gun combinations.

Play notes: Torture Attacks depict execution devices, including guillotines.
