About this game

Cereza enters Avalon Forest searching for the power to save her mother, accompanied by Cheshire, a demon inhabiting her stuffed toy. You guide both characters through a world rendered like a painted picture book. Their controls occupy opposite sides of the controller: Cereza binds enemies with magic while Cheshire attacks them with his claws. Exploration uses the same partnership. Cereza changes the environment with magic, and Cheshire clears obstacles to open paths. In Hug Mode, his doll form can be carried, extended or tossed to reach different spaces. Breaking Elemental Cores grants Cheshire new forms and situational abilities, giving the pair additional ways to overcome obstacles as their journey continues.

7.5 / 10Nintendo Switch

A promising fit for players who enjoy coordinating complementary characters in puzzles and combat.

Binding an enemy with Cereza before attacking with Cheshire can make cooperation feel like the central decision in a fight. Elemental forms extend that relationship into exploration, appealing to players who enjoy finding new uses for a familiar partnership.

Strengths

  • Distinct character roles can make successful coordination more rewarding than simply repeating attacks.
  • Elemental abilities give route finding a concrete reason to reconsider what each character can do.

Weaknesses

  • Keeping two separately controlled characters in mind may demand more divided attention than some players want.

Who it is for: Players interested in environmental puzzles, character partnerships and a picture-book adventure.

Acquiring elemental forms suggests an exploration rhythm built around expanding the pair's available solutions rather than only repeating the same obstacle interaction.
