About this game
Assault Heroes is a PlayStation 3 shooter game centered on aiming, shooting, and weapon use, aiming and shooting, and positioning and evasion. Missions pace progress through enemy waves, routes, objectives, and weapon opportunities, with progress divided into stages, tasks, matches, or growth milestones that make immediate goals understandable. Its value depends on whether these rules continue to create judgment and room for mastery rather than on length, sales, or series recognition. Short campaigns are judged by repeat-challenge value, while longer ones are judged by variety, pacing, and recovery after failure. Aiming feedback, projectiles, hits, and danger zones need to remain readable, while HD 3D scenes, Blu-ray data streaming, surround audio, and cinematic presentation need to preserve action, state, and text readability together. The genre-specific limitation is that camera turning, aiming methods, dense encounters, and peripheral support can increase control pressure. Platform conditions also include Blu-ray loading, HDD installs, system software, DualShock 3 battery life, Move accessories, resolution and frame rate, and retired online services affect present-day use. This description covers only this platform release and does not import features or conveniences from remasters, emulators, or other console editions.

Fast PS3 arcade combat in a short uneven package.
Assault Heroes on PS3 brings an older top-down vehicle shooter to PlayStation Network with a sound arcade foundation. The left stick moves and the right stick fires in every direction, while a minigun, flamethrower and explosives encourage constant repositioning. Losing the vehicle forces a risky spell on foot; underground sections and bosses with learnable patterns add useful variation. Seventeen areas, three difficulty settings and cooperative play give the short campaign some replay value, although the final timed escape is much harsher than most preceding stages. Underground and outdoor scenes, explosions and rock music keep the action lively. This PS3 port, however, makes few changes to an XBLA game that was already several years old, and its cutscenes and visuals show that origin. The direct PS3 review describes smooth twin-stick handling. Its difficulty finding online partners in 2010 is a historical observation, not a statement about current network service. The release suits players who want a compact cooperative arcade shooter rather than a lengthy campaign.
Strengths
- Weapons, vehicles and co-op keep action lively.
Weaknesses
- Short length and a harsh final escape limit appeal.
Who it is for: Players seeking a compact co-op overhead shooter.
Play notes: Online observations date to 2010; present service unverified.
